Choose your own adventure, £50 an hour
You might not want to hear this(!) but maybe you are already a technical expert, and you know more about your creative tech than I do. It's a common experience for me that an artist will "apologise" for their code or hardware, while showing me something technically amazing. You should believe in yourselves more!
It's not surprising. Creative people are often driven to fulfil their vision with the force of a gale, and tech is not magic, it is totally learnable. But after a certain point you get stuck, or you feel like you've slowed yourself down, but you're not sure how. That's when a tutor can be really helpful.
Or maybe you're just starting out and you want to be sure you're doing things in a way that will work.
Whatever your needs, I'm here to help! I've got an Edinburgh Uni degree and 20 years of professional experience of bringing projects to completion. I know how artistic projects work: performances, installations, music apps, crafting tools, VR, AR, haptics. The deadlines, the funding processes and budgeting for people like me. I'm good with OSC, sound processing, p5js, python, Arduino etc, but it's not so much about what I know, but how I can help you approach your problems with a technical understanding and point you in the right direction.
What I know is how to problem-solve in technical domains, and how to structure a project so that it continues to be a success, rather than an ever-intensifying debate with ChatGPT or late nights waiting for forum replies. Turning novel, often ambiguous concepts into satisfying realities is my day job, and I'm happy to pass that experience on.
That's why I'm offering pay-per-hour technical advice calls. You might want to do the work yourself, you might want to explore what the work is, or you might not have budget for developers. Whatever you need, if you don't know where to go next I can help you with planning, programming tutoring, suggestions, code reviews, debugging, and pair programming. Whatever it takes (that is possible on a video call or around Edinburgh anyway!)
How it works
- First of all, drop me your email address and message in the form below. Let me know loosely what you're working on and what you need, and I'll get back to you.
- I'll get in touch to find a time that suits both of us, and maybe ask you some additional questions. Where possible I will take the time to read around the problem area before we talk.
- We'll hop on a call together. I'm happy to use whichever platform works for you. Alternatively, if you are near to Edinburgh, we can meet up in person.
- I send you the bill, and we can figure out where to go next.

Job too big? Job too small?
I am also available to contract as a developer, project manager, TPO, assistant, barista, amateur breakdancer, and general problem solver, if you need more than just a call. I can help you with your funding proposals. If budget is an issue we can discuss skill sharing opportunities too. It can't hurt to say hi!
